Overview

Last summer, neighborhood leaders began formulating an approach to a broader area plan that would include the Fiesta site, Hancock Center, several smaller commercial properties, and the TxDOT proposed caps. As reported in the August 2024 edition of the Flea newsletter, the Austin City Council supported this effort last May (Resolution 20240530-170).

The Architect’s Foundation approved an application for a Design-Assistance- Team (DAT) in August and held a preliminary visit to Austin on Oct 17. They met with leaders from Cherrywood and Hancock, as well as City of Austin staff, and urban design and transit advocates. The full DAT multi-day visit will be the last week of March, so here are some dates to save on your calendar. More information will be sent out via the listserv and other channels:

  • Wed, Mar 26 evening, open-house introduction to process and initial framework

  • Thr, Mar 27 day time small focus group style meetings

  • Fri, Mar 28 evening, open-house summary of DAT visit

If you are interested in the DAT, email chair@cherrywood.org.
